Macintosh Family: Clocks Accurate to 1 Minute Per Month

Can you explain why the clocks on our Macintosh systems are not keeping accurate time? (I've observed this on Macintosh II and Macintosh IIx systems.) The clocks gain as much as 2 minutes a week.
The real-time clock in the Macintosh family of computers is specified to be
accurate to within 1 minute per month.

If the clock is gaining 8 minutes or so a month, we suspect that the clock chip
may be bad. Have the computer checked by a service provider. If the problem
continues, the logic board may have to be replaced.
