ClarisWorks: Saving in Merge Format

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
ClarisWorks DB does not save files in Merge format (which includes field names) since ClarisWorks has a built-in merge capability. However, you may need to export a file with the field names for someone else to use as a merge document with an application other than ClarisWorks.

To do this, create a record which has field names in the fields themselves. Once you do this, put a space before one of the field values and sort by that field. It will fall first in the sort order because of the space. Then remove the space and save as ASCII text. The first record will be the field names.

If you copy the field names record, and paste it into the Scrapbook, in the future you can just paste in the record, sort, save as ASCII text and delete the record when you're done.
