ClarisWorks: Documents Not Listed Using the Insert Command

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Question: When I select "Insert" in the File Menu, I don't see my existing ClarisWorks documents (Except for Word Processing documents)*, even though I'm in the right folder in the directory. Will rebuilding my desktop make a difference?

Answer: No. The "Insert" command is only in effect for NON-ClarisWorks documents (MacWrite II, MacPaint, PICT, Text, etc.) If you want to insert a previously created CW document into the one you're currently working on, you must open the previously created document , copy the information and paste it into the current document through the clipboard. In other words, the Insert command does not support inserting ClarisWorks documents.

*Word Processing documents do show up, but you will get varying results depending on the version.

ClarisWorks 1.0 for Macintosh:
The file will successfully insert into your new WP file.

ClarisWorks 1.0 for Windows:
You will see the WP file in the Insert dialog, but after selecting it, you will get a message "The file you created cannot be inserted".

ClarisWorks 2.0 for Macintosh:
You will see the WP file in the Insert dialog. After selecting it, your screen will flash, return you to the document you're attempting to insert into, but the text will not be inserted.

A suggested workaround for the Windows and Macintosh 2.0 versions is to save the document you will be inserting later as a file type other than ClarisWorks.
