ClarisWorks: Text Color Palette Displays X‘s

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Now Menus 4.0 conflicts with the Text Color palette of FileMaker Pro (all versions), ClarisWorks 2.0 and Claris Impact This palette pops up when you select Text Color from the Format menu (Text menu in Claris Impact Now Menus renders the colors incorrectly, and converts some colors to an "X". The conflict is corrected by the Now Utilities 4.01p update.

You can get around the issue by holding down the CONTROL key when selecting the drop down menu (this temporarily turns off Now Menus). Another option is to click the Prefs button in the Now Menus control panel and exclude ClarisWorks and/or FileMaker.

In addition, FileMaker Pro 2.0vX may display the incorrect command key equivalents for the Bring to Front, Send to Back, Alignment, or other menu commands if the Now Menus 4.01 Control Panel is active. Now Menus 3.0 did not provide this "on-the-fly" menu modification. Selecting the commands with the mouse performs the correct actions.

Now Menus 4.01 has the ability to remap keyboard equivalents. You do this by selecting the command keys while you have the menu item selected. You can remove them by hitting the delete key while the menu item is selected. Now Menus traps for the keys before they have reached the application so if you map Command-F to the About box, for example, the keys will not reach FileMaker for execution. Simply hit Delete while the About item is selected and it will clear it.

The key equivalent for the Ungroup menu item (command-shift-G) is rendered inoperable by Disktop.Extras which is part of the Disktop package from CE Software. Disktop.Extras comes preconfigured with a command-shift-G option that summons GOfer. Fortunately, the GOfer command key combination is user-defineable, so changing it resolves the incompatibility with FileMaker.Text Color Palette Display X keyboard.
