ClarisWorks: Bad Alias in Performa Launcher

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
The Macintosh Performa series computers come pre-installed with an application launching program called "Launcher."

It works by creating aliases of applications and placing them in a special folder. On some machines, the alias for ClarisWorks is bad, causing an error when choosing ClarisWorks from the Launcher application.

To correct this issue:

1. Find the actual ClarisWorks application.

It should be located in the ClarisWorks folder which, on Performas, is located inside the Applications folder on the hard disk (Macintosh HD:Applications:ClarisWorks:ClarisWorks).

2. Make an alias of the file by selecting the ClarisWorks icon (do not double click) and choosing Make Alias from the File menu.

3. Open up your System Folder on the hard disk and locate the "Launcher Items" folder. Open this folder and Trash the ClarisWorks alias located there.

4. Drag the new alias created in step 2 into the Launcher Items folder and restart your machine. The Launcher should now correctly find and launch the ClarisWorks application.
