ClarisWorks: Pasting Number Formatted Data from SS to WP

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
When a number is copied from a spreadsheet cell, any number formatting using the Format:Number command is ignored (display in <2> decimal places, currency, commas, display of negative numbers). What is copied is the actual value that is stored in the cell. For example, consider a cell with the formula "=5/23" formatted to display as a fixed number with two decimal places. The number displayed on screen is .22, but the number stored in the cell is 0.21739130434782609. This longer value is what will copy and paste into other programs or ClarisWorks modules, such as the word processor.

There is no way to copy cell values in their formatted result. A suggested workaround is to create a spreadsheet frame in the word processing document and paste the values into it. You can select the frame and choose Display from the Options menu to turn off row and column headings. Also, you can paste a spreadsheet frame in-line with your text so it flows with changes. To do this, Cut the frame, click where you want to insert it in the text and paste.

Another workaround: if you're only using the Format:Number command to format to a fixed number of decimal places, you can edit the formula in the spreadsheet cell to use the Round() function. This will cause the number stored in the cell to be fixed to a specific number of decimal places. In the example above, the formula "=Round(5/23,2)" results in the number .22, which will copy and paste as expected.
