Customizing the Modem Initialization String (CM)

Question: How do I set the modem initialization string in ClarisWorks. Specifically, I want to turn off the modem speaker before dialing.

Answer: To customize the modem initialization string:

1. Open a new communications document or one you have previously set up.
2. Select Connection from the Settings menu.
3. Choose your modem type or Hayes-compatible from the modem popup menu.
4. From the same popup menu, choose Custom. (If you do not see a Custom item, hold down the option key before clicking on the menu. You have an earlier version of the Apple Modem Tool and should obtain the ClarisWorks 1.0v3 update or ClarisWorks 2.0 upgrade.)
5. You will be presented with a dialog which displays the initialization string for the previous selection. The string must begin with AT, and can be followed by whatever AT commands you want, all strung together. Add M0 (that's M-zero) to turn off the modem speaker. Consult your modem manual for details on the Hayes commands it recognizes.

If you want all new communications documents to default to this setting, title it ClarisWorks CM Options and save as ClarisWorks Stationery into the Claris folder in your System folder.
