Wrong Help Screen Comes Up ? Not Context-Sensitive (All)

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Both ClarisWorks 1.0 and ClarisWorks 2.0 provide context-sensitive help by choosing Help from the Apple menu. However, installing ClarisWorks 2.0 might cause confusion if you are using both ClarisWorks 1.0 and ClarisWorks 2.0 on the same machine.

Since both applications use a file called "ClarisWorks Help," and since the upgrade installer replaces the 1.0 help file in the Claris folder with the 2.0 help file, choosing Help in ClarisWorks 1.0 after installing ClarisWorks 2.0 will often result in the wrong help screen coming up. Other reasons why the wrong version of the help system might be used include customized installations, installing on an external hard drive or launching a copy of ClarisWorks 2.0 that was installed on a network volume.

The workaround is to place the ClarisWorks 1.0 Help file in the ClarisWorks 1.0 folder and to place the ClarisWorks 2.0 Help file in the ClarisWorks 2.0 folder. The Claris Help System file will need to exist in both the 1.0 and 2.0 ClarisWorks folders. Make sure that there is no ClarisWorks Help file in the Claris folder in the System Folder. Since each application will use its own version of the help file (even though both are using the updated Claris Help System file), erroneous help screens will not come up.

Note that if you leave any ClarisWorks Help file in the Claris folder, each copy of ClarisWorks might use it, but will use it differently, depending upon the version of the Application and the Help file:

Help 1.0:
ClarisWorks 1.0 - No Problem
ClarisWorks 2.0 - No Context Sensitive help. Help System opens to Index, but works normally. Not all of the new features are described. (If the new help file is in the same folder as ClarisWorks 2.0, it will be accessed normally, regardless of what Help file is in the Claris folder.)

Help 2.0:
ClarisWorks 1.0 - Mistaken Context-Sensitivity brings up wrong help screens, some of which talk about features which are not present in ClarisWorks 1.0.
ClarisWorks 2.0 - No Problem
