About Version 2.0 Macintosh, Product Fact Sheet

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Product Description:
ClarisWorks 2.0 software is the complete productivity solution for business, education and home.

ClarisWorks 2.0 dramatically enhances the already #1-selling Macintosh Works product. It adds brand new capabilities such as outlining and presentations, and enhances each existing environment while retaining the superior integration, small size and speedy performance of ClarisWorks 1.0. And new Shortcuts make it even easier to use than the original award-winning version. The result is an even better value than ClarisWorks 1.0 that will appeal to a broader customer base of generalist users.

Target Customers:
* Small and Medium Business users will find that ClarisWorks 2.0 is the only general productivity tool they'll need for creating standout letters, memos, reports, presentations, proposals, sales flyers, address books, contact lists and newsletters.
* K-12 Educators will find ClarisWorks 2.0 to be an even better teaching tool with new important capabilities such as presentations, outlining, painting and Kermit support, yet retaining the simplicity, superior integration and size of the current favorite, ClarisWorks 1.0.

* Large Corporations will minimize their hardware and software acquisition and training costs. The superior integration, consistent user interface and new Shortcuts feature in ClarisWorks 2.0 let new users and field staff using PowerBooks get the most out of their computer. And outstanding Claris customer support, combined with the product's on-line help and in-box training materials, ensure users will be productive from the start.
* Mobile professionals will benefit from the program's small size -- which is still under 600K -- and speedy performance. And with its extensive file exchange capabilities, users can read and save files to most other popular software programs, even in multi-platform environments.
* Higher Education students, faculty and administrators will use ClarisWorks 2.0 as a one-stop productivity tool. Its new outlining, full-strength word processor and extensive charting capabilities perfectly address the expanding needs of college users.
¥ Home users will appreciate the excellent value ClarisWorks 2.0 offers them. At the same price as ClarisWorks 1.0, users get three completely new capabilities, more than 300 enhancements, and Shortcuts to improve their productivity.

Key Enhancements:
New Capabilities
* Complete outlining feature allows users to organize their thoughts and documents using seven popular outline styles including Harvard, legal, numeric and bulleted formats.
* Presentation Slide Show with QuickTime support. Users can create dynamic slide show presentations complete with background and border colors, QuickTime movies and fade between slides. Presentations can be either manual or auto-advance.
* Shortcuts offer push-button access to the 150 most frequently used commands such as spell checking, cell formatting or auto-summing. Just as with the menus, the icon palette automatically configures itself to the environment being used (e.g. text or spreadsheet).
* Full-color paint capabilities and 32 gradient fills allow users to add even more striking graphic effects to documents.
* With all these new capabilities, ClarisWorks 2.0 is still under 600K.

New Word Processing Features
* Automatic text wrap around graphics creates more professional-looking brochures, flyers, newsletters and more.

* Custom text styles allow users to create, name and save frequently-used text styles for instant access.
* Individually variable column widths. Users simply click on the column controls button to automatically add columns to their layouts; then visually adjust column size by dragging the column to the preferred width.
* Show and hide invisible characters allow users to view all format commands in their documents for accuracy.
* Expanded spell check selection. Users can now spell check either their entire document or only specific blocks of text.
* Original date and time clock permanently reflect the original date and time a document was created.

Expanded Charting and Spreadsheet Capabilities
* Hi-Low-Close charts are ideal for tracking pricing trends, such as stocks, with defined beginning and end points.
* Combination charts allow users to combine chart options -- like using a line chart with a bar chart -- to illustrate contrasting data more effectively.
* Pictogram charts translate plain numeric data into compelling charts that graphically depict data.

* Unparalleled chart format customization. Users can customize any or all of their charts -- change fonts, styles, adjust orientation, title and legend placement and size, select symbols, colors, scales, patterns, 3D and more.
* Spreadsheet cell wrap. When cell wrap is applied, text automatically wraps within the cell boundaries.
* Lock Title option locks column headings in place so they remain in constant view for quick reference as users scroll through documents. This also reduces the need for screen splitting.

New Database Features
* Automatic field entry from pop up menu. Users can save time and avoid repetitive data entry by creating a pop up list of data. This also ensures data consistency and accuracy.
* Automatic serial numbering.
* Automatic date, time, creator, and modifier stamps.
* Automatic field validation (uniqueness, within range, emptiness).
* More than 50 predefined Avery label formats make it a snap to generate labels.

Graphics Enhancements
* Color paint environment includes 18 tools and six transformation effects.

* Gradient palette adds pizzazz to presentations with 16 black and white and 16 color gradients.
* Bezigon and Polygon drawing tools make it easier than ever before to create and style curves and shapes.
* Repeat Object Placement simplifies the placement of duplicate graphics by automatically placing duplicates of graphics in equidistant sequence from the original.

Communications
* Kermit file transfer protocol enables educational institutions and others that use this protocol to send files easily.
* Phone Book. Users can enter all frequently used phone numbers into the Phone Book. Then, by simply selecting the name of a person they wish to contact, the phone number is automatically dialed.
