Communications Document Takes a Long Time to Open (CM)

Since the scrollback log of ClarisWorks 2.0 is set to "limited by memory," files can grow in size and take a long time to open. There are two options for dealing with this.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

ClarisWorks 2.0 sets the scrollback log to "Unlimited." This is convenient for storing as much of a session as possible. However, if you use the same document to log on again and again, the scrollback log will grow in size. This both increases the file size and the time required to open the document. For example, a 300K document could take up to 30 seconds to open depending on the model of Macintosh.

There are several options for dealing with this:

1. After you are finished with a session, and have reviewed or retrieved what you needed from the scrollback log, choose Clear Saved Lines from the Session menu to clear the scrollback log. Note that all data in the scrollback will be lost, so be certain before doing this.

2. Set up a communications document for each service you log onto with all the proper settings and when saving it, choose ClarisWorks Stationery from the File Type popup menu. When you open the document, a new Untitled clone of the document will be opened, leaving the original untouched for your next session.

3. If you don't need a large scrollback log for your sessions, decrease the scrollback log size in the Preferences dialog.
