Opening 1.0 Documents in 2.0 (CM)

The message: "Could not configure connection tool" is the result of a new version of the Apple Modem Tool which doesn't properly open documents created with the older version.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

After upgrading to ClarisWorks (CW) 2.0, you may get the following message when opening 1.0 Communications documents:

"Could not configure connection tool."

The document will then open but the phone number will be missing. This message will only occur with documents configured with the Apple Modem Tool. This is due to the fact that CW 2.0 automatically updates the Apple Modem Tool to Version 1.1.1. The new tool will not properly open CW documents created with the older version. Trying to open up documents with CW 1.0 after CW 2.0 will result in the same error message.

The solutions are:

1. Reenter the phone number, check the other settings and save the converted document. The warning will not appear the next time you open the document.

2. Replace the new Apple Modem Tool (in the Extensions Folder in the System Folder) with the older tool from the ClarisWorks Communications Folder on the ClarisWorks 1.0 Communications Disk.

Note: Using the older version may result in less stable communications. The new version contains several enhancements.
