Outline Styles Not Preserved When Not in Outline View (WP)

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
In the ClarisWorks 2.0 word processing environment, when using Outline View, be aware that styles applied by the Outline Format will not be preserved when you deselect Outline View; text created while in Outline View will revert to Helvetica, regardless of any other style changes you've made in your document - even if they are the document's default.

For example, if you are typing a document with Helvetica font and you select Outline menu, Outline View, Harvard Format , your outline will be displayed in New York - which is the typestyle that the Harvard format uses. But once you exit Outline View, your text will become Helvetica, because that New York typestyle was applied by the Outline feature.

If you are working with a document that has, say, Palatino as its default typestyle, and you switch to Outline View, any text you've already typed will show up in Palatino in the Outline. Text you type beyond that will appear in whatever typestyle is defined for that Outline format. Once you exit Outline View, any text that was typed in Palatino format before you entered Outline View will remain Palatino; any text that was styled by the Outline format will become Helvetica - even though Palatino is the "default" for your document.

If you are in Outline View and you manually change a typestyle by selecting text and choosing another typestyle, that style will be kept when you leave Outline View. This reversion to Helvetica only happens with typestyles that are applied by the Outline Format itself.

There is no workaround, other than using Helvetica as your default typeface.
