Demo Disk - What Is Included, Installation, General Use

Typing Install at a dos prompt will run the demo's install program, and more information is contained in a file called readme.wri that is installed with the demo program in the CWDEMO directory.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

The ClarisWorks 1.0 for Windows Demo Disk contains two files: Install.bat and demo.exe. Installing the demo is handled by the install.bat file. This runs a DOS installation program, so the install.bat can be run from inside Windows or from a DOS prompt.

1. Exit Windows, so that you see a Dos prompt
2. Insert the ClarisWorks Demo disk in either the A or B drive
3. Type A: or B: depending on which drive the demo disk is in, and press enter
4. Type "Install" and press enter

If a "Not ready reading drive" error occurs after typing Install, check to see what drive the disk is in. If it is in the B: drive, you must type B: and press enter, otherwise DOS will look at the wrong disk drive and produce the error "Not ready reading drive".

After the files are installed, you will have a CWDEMO directory with the demo program, sample files, and a Claris directory inside the CWDEMO directory with picture filters and other auxiliary files. Double - clicking on the CWDEMO.EXE will run the demo version of ClarisWorks. Also in the CWDEMO directory is a file called README.WRI that has instructions on installation and operation of the demo, and there is a ClarisWorks file called PRINTME.CWK that has instructions on creating some example documents with ClarisWorks.

The demo program's install routine does not create an icon for the ClarisWorks 1.0 for Windows demo, so one must be created by hand.

1. Start Windows, if you are still at a Dos prompt
2. In Program Manager, pull down the File menu and select New
3. Choose Program Group, and name the group "ClarisWorks Demo"
4. From the File menu, choose New and select Program Item
5. Type C:\\CWDEMO\\CWDEMO.EXE in the Command Line box
