When you need to transfer information between a ClarisWorks and a FileMaker database, use the DIF format. This format preserves the field names, making it much easier to merge files. When opening a DIF file that was exported from FileMaker Pro 2.0, ClarisWorks automatically creates the fields necessary to accommodate your data. Each field has the same name as it did in FileMaker Pro and uses Text as its field type.
If you want to add FileMaker Pro data to an existing ClarisWorks database, you can follow these steps:
1. Export the information from FileMaker Pro using the DIF format.
2. Use the ClarisWorks Open command to import the DIF file. A new ClarisWorks database will be created using the field names in the DIF file. All field types will be Text.
3. Select the records to be moved and copy them.
4. Open the database where the information belongs, and paste. The information will be added to the database, with fields matching up automatically.
Since ClarisWorks matches field names while pasting, this makes it easy to exchange information between ClarisWorks and FileMaker Pro databases on a consistent basis.
