Dr. Watson is a Microsoft utility that ships with Windows 3.1 to record system information during a crash. You can easily set up Dr. Watson to run in the background whenever you run Windows. If your computer crashes, Dr. Watson will record what the error was, in what memory location it occurred, and what applications were running at the time of the error.
To install Dr. Watson:
* Open the Startup group from the Program Manager in Windows.
* Choose New from the File menu and select Program Item. Click OK.
* Type the following in the Program Item Properties dialog box:
Description: Dr. Watson
Command Line: drwatson.exe
Working Directory: [leave blank]
Shortcut Key: None
Dr. Watson creates a text file in your Windows directory called drwatson.log that you can read with a word processor. If the file already exists, Dr. Watson appends new information to the file. If your log becomes too large, you can rename or delete the file. The next time Dr. Watson runs, it will create a new drwatson.log file.
If you get a GPF or crash in a Claris application, you can have a Technical Support specialist review the Dr. Watson log. You can either upload the text file to our BBS at (408) 987-7421 or print the file and fax it to Technical Support at (408) 987-7447.
