Q. No matter how hard I try, I can't get the database fields to line up evenly in my ClarisWorks screen displays and reports. There must be a way to make this easier than just trying to align everything "by eye".

A. "Autogrid" is an invisible grid of rows and columns that "hides" behind your ClarisWorks screen. With Autogrid turned off, you can move objects anywhere on the ClarisWorks screen. With Autogrid turned on, all objects automatically line up with the nearest row or column on the grid.

Go to the Options Menu and make certain the Autogrid feature is turned on when you work with your database. (You know that Autogrid is on if the Options Menu includes the "Turn Autogrid Off" option.)

ClarisWorks' "Align" feature also makes it easy to line up rows and columns. Just select the objects you want to align, choose Align Objects from the Arrange Menu, and mark the appropriate boxes in the Align Objects dialog box that will appear on your screen.
