ClarisWorks Tip: Use the Spell Checker to Count Words (WP)

This is a portion of an article that originally appeared in the ClarisWorks Journal, the monthly publication of the ClarisWorks Users Group, Box 701010, Plymouth, MI 48170; (313) 454-1969; Fax: (313) 454-1965. Copyright ClarisWorks Users Group; reprinted with permission.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

The Spell Checker included with ClarisWorks and ClarisImpact makes it easy to count the number of words in a document. Just perform a regular spell check. When you are done, these two Claris programs will display the number of words it checked in the document (see Figure 1). Since ClarisWorks and ClarisImpact check every word, the number next to "Words Checked" is the number of words in the document.

Remember that ClarisWorks can also count the number of words in your spreadsheet and text frames.

NOTE:
MacWrite Pro has a much more sophisticated system for counting words, sentences, etc. in a document without using the spell checker.

[ClarisWorks 3.0 has a feature in the Edit>Writing Tools menu for counting characters, words, sentences, etc.]
