How to Insert Graphics in Your Word Processor Documents (GR,WP)

There are four ways to add graphics to a ClarisWorks word processing document:

1. You can use thegraphics tools to create the graphic within the word processor document.

2. You can copy and paste the graphic from other ClarisWorks documents or from other applications.

3. You can use the Insert Command in the File Menu to insert a graphic stored in a file on a disk.

4. You can add a spreadsheet frame to your document and create a chart or graph from your spreadsheet data.

Whether you should create the graphic within the word processor document or in a separate document depends on your application. Graphics that you create within a document retain their position on the page and do not move with the text. You must manually drag and reposition the graphic each time you edit your text. Thus, you should create graphics within the document if you want to control their placement on the page.

How to Insert a Graphic

The "cut and paste" method you just used makes it easy to add ClarisWorks graphics to your word processor documents. But you cannot use cut and paste procedures to import clip-art and other files stored on a disk. Instead, you use the Insert Command to import graphics stored in PICT, TIFF, EPSF, and MacPaint 2.0 format files.

Follow these steps to import a graphic file into your document:

1. Scroll to the point in your document where you want the graphic to appear.

2. Click where you want to add the graphic and press the Return Key to add a blank line. Then click to put the insertion point at the beginning of the blank line.

3. Choose "Insert" from the File Menu, navigate to the disk or folder that contains the PICT, TIFF, EPSF, or MacPaint graphic file, and select that file. Then click on "Insert" to insert the graphic in the document.

Now you will size or "scale" your graphic. Continue as follows:

4. Click once on the graphic. A selection box will appear around the graphic with a "handle" in the lower right-hand corner.

5. Click on the handle and drag to resize and/or re-scale the graphic.

You can also use ClarisWorks' Scale Selection command to resize or re-scale the graphic. Select the graphic, choose "Scale Selection" from the Format Menu, and type a horizontal and/or vertical scale percentage in the dialog box. Then click on "OK".
