"Could Not Configure Connection Tool" Error Message (CM)

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
If phone numbers in the Connection Settings dialog are entered with spaces, the ClarisWorks Communications environment will generate an error message which reads "Could Not Configure Communication Tool." This is especially confusing if you are using the Phone Book, because it is more natural to enter phone numbers with spaces and parentheses or to use an outside line extension such as "9" followed by a comma.

The Right Way: 9,408-727-9054 or 408-727-9054 or 9,4087279054

The Wrong Way: 9, (408) 727-9054 or 9,(408) 727-9054 or (408) 727-9054

You will also get this error message when dialing with the Dial menu in the status bar of ClarisWorks 2.0 if the Serial Tool is selected in Connection Settings, or if you change the Type field in the Address Book to something other than PhoneNumber.
