System 7 Tune-up and ClarisWorks Installation (All)

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
On page 2 of the ClarisWorks 2.0 Installation Guide, one of the requirements listed is that the System 7 Tune-Up (version 1.1.1) needs to be installed. This is based on Apple's recommendation for proper system operation. The Tune-Up addresses many system software level issues relating to memory, file storage, speed, and printing. It should be noted that this is true of ANY Macintosh application, not just ClarisWorks.

Please refer to TIL article# 10150: "System 7 Tune-Up 1.1.1: Availability, Installation" for more information on the Tune-Up.

Users may also upgrade to later versions of system software, please refer to TIL article# 30152: "Mac OS: Upgrading from Older OS Versions" for more information on upgrading system software.

While ClarisWorks (or any other Macintosh application) will run without the Tune-Up installed, users may experience unexpected software anomalies that would otherwise be eliminated by the Tune-Up. This requirement was included in the Installation Guide to prevent this.

To find out if the Tune-Up has been installed, switch to the Finder and under the Apple menu select "About This Macintosh...". If the Tune-Up has been installed there will be a bullet to the right of the System version, i.e. 7.01·.

A special note for Macintosh Performa users: System 7.01p includes the Tune-Up as part of the system software and does not require a call to Apple. This version will only be found on Macintosh Performa 200 and 400 models. All other Macintosh Performa computers are shipping with System 7.1p or later and do not require the Tune-Up.
