Lines Created with Tab Fill Leaders May Not End at the Same Point if Text Precedes the Tab (WP)

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Lines created with Tab Leaders may not end at exactly the same point if text precedes the tab. Try this example:

1. Create a new word processing document
2. Insert a Left Tab on the Ruler at 4 inches
3. Double-click on this tab and the Tab dialog box should appear
4. Choose the solid line as the Fill type and click OK
5. Type "Hello", press Tab & press Return
6. Type "Goodbye", press Tab & press Return

Notice that the two lines do not end at the same point. Even with fractional character widths turned on, they do not match on screen or on printout. Development is aware of this symptom.

In the meantime, choosing a mono-spaced font, such as Courier, or turning on Fractional Character Widths may alleviate this.
