FileMaker Pro, ClarisWorks Running Slowly in Windows NT

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Windows NT is a 32 bit operating system. This does not mean that it can not run a 16 bit application such as FileMaker Pro or ClarisWorks, Windows NT will run them in an emulation mode called Windows on Windows or WOW.

A WOW session is only started when the first 16 bit application is launched in Windows NT, and because of this the first 16 bit application that launches takes longer to start up. You can decrease the amount of time it takes for the first 16-bit application to launch by creating an icon for WOWEXEC.EXE and putting it in the STARTUP group.
