In the Spreadsheet environment of ClarisWorks 2.0, in addition to regular alignment controls, you can choose an alignment option called "wrap." This option allows you to have flowing text inside a spreadsheet cell. It is an extremely useful feature if you wish to create text tables and multiple lines of text inside a cell. With cells that have the wrap alignment assigned, you can set the row height to be very tall, and have the text fill the cell from top to bottom.
This can be a problem, because the wrap alignment option handles entered data differently based on the type of data that has been entered:
If you simply type text into the cell, it will appear at the top of the cell, starting at the left (or any alignment position that you have specified).
If you enter a number, it will appear at the bottom of the cell, aligned at the right (or any alignment position that you have specified). To make the number appear at the top of the cell, you must enter an Option-space after the number. (Keep in mind that this makes the number a text value.)
If you enter a formula into the cell, the result of the formula will appear at the bottom of the cell, aligned left or right, depending upon the format of the formula result. (text is at the left by default, numbers are at the right) If you have chosen an alignment option, it will override the default settings.
There is no workaround that would allow you to change the baseline inside the cell and move the results of formulas to the top of the cell.
