Using the MacWrite 5.0 XTND Translator for Older Versions of MacWrite

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
The MacWrite 5.0 XTND translator opens MacWrite files from versions 4.5, 4.6, 5.0 and 5.01. The MacWrite 5.0 XTND translator is included with ClarisWorks, MacDraw Pro, MacWrite Pro (all versions); also with MacWrite II 1.1 (all versions).

This translator will not open MacWrite 2.2 files. If you need to open a MacWrite 2.2 file into one of the Claris applications listed previously, use either of these two methods:

1- Open the MacWrite 2.2 file in Microsoft Word, then save out as any file type that your Claris application can open (Word, MacWrite, MacWrite II, RTF, etc.). You can then open this file into your other Claris application.
2- Open the MacWrite 2.2 file using MacWrite 4.5, 4.6, 5.0 and 5.01. Resave, then open the file into your other Claris application.

Note: MacWrite 4.5 runs only on 68000-based Macintosh computers. MacWrite 5.01 will open and save using System 7.1 and earlier, but only on older Macintosh models (Quadra 700 and earlier).
