The equal-sided polygon tool (stop sign) is the only tool that is preset to draw from the center rather than the edge.
This can be confusing, because no other tool automatically draws from the center.
All other tools require you to hold down the option key while drawing to get the same effect. The reasoning behind this choice is that the equal-sided polygon tool draws only symmetrical shapes, which are easier to draw from the center.
