ClarisImpact, ClarisWorks 2.0 and ClarisDraw can use an 81 color palette and an Editable 256 color palette. ClarisWorks and ClarisImpact default to using the 81 color, non-editable palette, while ClarisDraw defaults to a 168-color palette.
To change the palette being used, choose Preferences from the Edit menu (ClarisWorks) or the Layout menu (ClarisDraw and ClarisImpact). Once inside Preferences, choose Palettes (ClarisWorks) or Color (ClarisImpact) or Colors & Gradients (ClarisDraw). When changing to the editable 256 color palette you will have the choice of using the default editable 256 color palette or loading a different editable palette by clicking the Load Palette button (ClarisWorks or ClarisImpact) or the Open button (ClarisDraw).

The 81 color palette is NOT editable but contains the most commonly used colors. The advantage is that it is smaller and takes less space on the screen when you tear it off. This palette is best used with monitors that support 256 colors or fewer.
The editable 256-color palette is larger and editable. By double-clicking on a color you can change what shows in this palette. NOTE: Black and white are not editable and you will hear a beep if you try to change them.
Changes made to any palette are document-specific. In other words, if you open a new document, it will use the default palette. The best way to save a color palette for future use with another document is to use the Save Palette feature in Preferences.
Remember, clicking the Make Default button in Preferences will only remember that you are using an editable palette, not which one you are using.
The easiest way to always use a particular palette is to create a Stationery document (the Stationery document will remember which palette you have chosen).
