Issues Custom Installing Fonts

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Custom install gives you the option of installing your fonts in three different ways:

ClarisImpact Fonts for 7.1 or Greater
ClarisImpact Fonts for 7.0
ClarisImpact Fonts for 6.0.7

All three of these choices install the same fonts but in different ways. If you do not match the correct Font choice to your System Software version the following will happen:

1. If you have System 7.0 or 7.1 and accidentally choose to custom install "ClarisImpact Fonts for 6.0.7" then when you restart your computer you will get a message stating, "True Type is already installed... skipping installation!!!" Also, if you have System 7.1, your fonts will have been installed into the System suitcase rather than the fonts folder. To fix the first issue, remove the True Type extension from your Extensions Folder (it also may be at the System Folder level) and throw it into the Trash Can. System 6 needs the True Type extension but System 7 already has it built-in. To solve the second issue (for System 7.1 users only), simply double-click on your System and move the fonts into the Fonts folder.

2. If you have System 7.0 and accidentally choose to custom install "ClarisImpact Fonts for 7.1 or Greater" then your fonts will be installed in a folder called Fonts (it actually creates the folder called Fonts) in the System Folder. To fix this issue, simply drag the fonts from the System Folder into the System and then delete the folder called Fonts.

3. If you have System 7.1 and accidentally choose to custom install "ClarisImpact Fonts for 7.0" then your fonts will be installed in the System rather than the Fonts folder. Although it is okay to install your fonts into the System it is preferable under System 7 to install your fonts into the Fonts folder. To correct this issue, simply open the System and drag the fonts into the Fonts folder.

4. If you have System 6.0.7 or greater and accidentally choose to install "ClarisImpact Fonts for 7.0" then your fonts will still be installed properly into the System. While this is where the fonts should go it is possible that the True Type extension may not already be in your System Folder. The solution for this issue is to go back and custom install "ClarisImpact Fonts for 6.0.7".

5. If you have System 6.0.7 or greater and accidentally choose to install "ClarisImpact Fonts for 7.1" then your fonts will be installed into the System Folder and will not work properly. These fonts need to be removed from the System Folder and custom installed properly by using "ClarisImpact Fonts for 6.0.7".

For your convenience, below is a listing of all the fonts that ClarisImpact installs:

Bernhard Modern
Bodoni
Commercial
Futura
Impress
Kuenst
Zapf Humnst

Several versions of each of these fonts is shipped. For example, Bodoni ships with a regular and an italic version.
