Using Outlines in Other Programs

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
The Outliner available in Claris Works and ClarisImpact does not copy the labels (bullets, numbers, etc.) when copying and pasting text. All that will be copied is the text in the Outline. You will notice if you choose Select All in the Outline that the labels will not highlight, indicating that they cannot be copied and pasted.

However, if you use a frame to create your outline, you can use Apple's Publish and Subscribe technology to Publish the frame itself and create an Edition file, or copy the frame and its contents to the Clipboard.

To create a frame that can be displayed in another application:
1. Launch Claris Works or ClarisImpact.
2. Create a text frame (In ClarisWorks) or an Outline model frame (In ClarisImpact).
3. Choose Outline View from the Outline menu (ClarisWorks, not necessary in ClarisImpact).
4. Enter the text of your outline and edit it normally.
5. Click on the graphics tool and select the frame.
6. Choose Copy or Create Publisher from the Edit menu.

If you have another application which supports Publish & Subscribe, like Microsoft Word, you can Subscribe to the Edition file if you wish to have the outline labels displayed. If you wish, you can also simply use the Paste command in order to place a PICT image of the outline into Word, or any other application which supports PICT images.
