Scenario:
The starting point is a Word Processing or Report document in Landscape Orientation. A folded brochure/pamphlet of three columns is needed. The tricky part is how to get the brochure to fold evenly down the middle of the space between each column while retaining three equal width columns.
Solution:
It is possible to approach this brochure in two ways. EITHER determine the space between each column you desire and then set your left and right margins to half that amount, OR determine the margins first and then make the space between columns double the margins. For example, if you want 0.25" margins then set the space between columns to 0.5".
Exact steps on how to create a 3 Column Landscape brochure:
The following steps walk you through how to create a 3 column Word Processing or Report document in Landscape Orientation with 1/4" margins all the way around the document and 1/2" space between each column. These steps are best used with a PostScript LaserWriter and cover aspects specific to this type of printer. If you have a different type of printer then you may not be able to use such small margins. Check your printer manual for the minimum margins or the maximum printable area and base your margins on this information.
1. Create a new Word Processing or Report document.
2. Choose Page Setup from the File menu. Notice the section for Orientation and change the selection from the person standing up (Portrait) to the person laying on their side (Landscape). Also, click the Options button and check the option for Larger Print Area (Less Downloadable Fonts). Click the Okay button when you are done.
3. If you are in a ClarisWorks 1.0 or 2.x document, then choose Document from the Format menu and change all the margins to 0.25". Click the Okay button when you are done. If you are using a ClarisImpact Report then you will find the Document choice on the Layout menu.
4. Choose Columns from the Format menu and change the number of columns to 3. Also, change the space between columns to 0.5". Click the Okay button when you are done.
