Can‘t Open Files Saved by Global Village Fax Center

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Global Village fax software can save received faxes in the following graphic file formats:

MacPaint (72 dpi)
PICT (72 dpi)
PICT (200 dpi)
PICT2 (72 dpi)
PICT2 (200 dpi)
TIFF (200 dpi)

Although Claris products which use the XTND translation system should be able to translate all these formats, in practice they can only translate the PICT2 files saved by the Global Village Fax Center application. Trying to open or insert any of the other formats will result in either a system hang (cursor stops spinning), an alert that the translator cannot read the file, or a blank document.

This seems to be due to a problem in the way Fax Center saves documents since other Macintosh applications also have problems translating these files.

So, to save a received fax in the Fax Center, choose Save As and select the PICT2 (72 dpi) or PICT2 (200 dpi) format. The 200 dpi resolution is higher quality, but imports as a very large image, so use 72 dpi option if you plan to print.
