Issues During Installation
Most Claris applications come with an Installer which asks you to disable virus checking software before doing an installation. To temporarily disable virus checkers and other system extensions which may conflict with an installation, do the following and then try the installation again:
* Choose About this Macintosh or About the Finder from the Apple menu to find out what version of the Macintosh System you are running.
* For System 7, choose Restart from the Special menu and hold down the Shift key until you see the message "Welcome to Macintosh. Extensions Off."
* For System 6:
1) Open your system folder. Go under the File menu to 'New Folder.' Drag the resultant new folder to the Desktop. You will not need to rename the folder. A handy place to put it is right above the Trash.
2) Drag your System file and your Finder file from the System folder to the new folder.
3) Choose Restart from the Special menu.
Issues After Installation
Sometimes, after you install new software on your Macintosh computer, you experience an increased frequency of lockups, crashes, or system error messages. When this happens, you are forced to turn off the computer and restart the system. These kinds of errors are an inconvenience and can also cause you to lose work.
Most often, these issues are caused by files called Extensions or INITs that you have added to your System Folder. Use the same instructions as above to temporarily disable them. Refer to the System Crashes & Lockups article in this folder for detailed instructions on how to find out which extension is the issue.
