No Blinking Cursor in a Word Processing Document

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
When using ClarisWorks on a CompUSA CompuDyne system, you may notice that when you open the word processor you cannot see a blinking cursor. This issue has also been reported on a Compaq Prolinea MT 4/66. You will still be able to type normally, but editing your documents later may be difficult. This is a reported issue with the CompUSA preinstalled video driver (CLGD5426/5428).

To correct the issue, complete the following steps:

1) Exit ClarisWorks completely.
2) Go to the Main window in Windows.
3) Double-Click on the Windows Setup icon.
4) Select Change System Settings from the Options menu.
5) Click on the down arrow to the right of the Display driver that is listed.
6) Scroll down the list of installed drivers and click on VGA (the one that says only VGA).
7) Click OK (The System may tell you that the driver is currently installed and ask if you wish to
use the currently installed driver or an update driver from another source).
8) Click on the Current button.

After you've chosen the driver, you must restart Windows so that the change takes effect.

After the change, ClarisWorks will display the cursor blinking properly.
