If you group rectangles or regular polygons that have been rotated, then resize the group, the objects in the group may appear to resize in unexpected ways. This is because the program stores data about objects in their non-rotated state.
To see this easily, create two groups of rectangles. For group 1, create a rectangle 1x3 inches and another 3x1 inches (one short and fat, the other tall and skinny), select the two rectangles, and choose Group from the Arrange menu. For group 2, create a rectangle 1x3 inches. With the rectangle selected, choose Duplicate from the Edit menu. Choose Rotate from the Arrange menu and rotate the second rectangle 90 degrees. Align the bottom edge of the two rectangles, select them both , and choose Group from the Arrange menu. The goal is to have two groups that look identical, but only one which contains a rotated object.
Click on group 1 and expand it to be twice as tall. Both objects in the group should expand vertically, becoming twice as tall as they were originally. Now select group 2 and do the same procedure. Notice that the rotated object expands along the axis that was vertical before it was rotated. That is, it gets wider rather than taller.
In order to have rotated regular polygons resize properly, you must get the program to recognize their rotated position as their original position. To do this, follow the procedure below for the program you are using.
For Claris CAD
1) Select the group containing the rotated polygons and choose Ungroup from the Arrange menu.
For each polygon..
2) Select the polygon
3) Choose Unjoin from the Arrange menu
4) Immediately choose Join from the Arrange menu
After doing this to each rotated polygon, you may reselect all desired objects and regroup them.
For MacDraw II and MacDraw Pro
Save the file as PICT then reopen it. In opening the PICT file MacDraw II and MacDraw Pro will take the rotated position of all polygons as their starting orientation, and they will resize correctly.
Check the alignment of objects and text to be sure that they have not shifted when the file was saved to PICT.
