When you have the Color StyleWriter 2400 (driver 1.6) selected in the Chooser, ClarisWorks versions 2.1v1, 2.1v2 and 2.1v3 will not allow you to create a new database. If you attempt to create a new database, your computer will freeze or display a "coprocessor not installed" or other system error.
The solution is to update to ClarisWorks version 2.1v4 or later. The best solution is to upgrade to ClarisWorks 4.0, 5.0, or AppleWorks 5.x.x.
The StyleWriter 2400 was not on the list of hardware that was tested and certified to be compatible with ClarisWorks version 2.1v3 and earlier. This is because this printer (and the version 1.6 driver) were not on the market and available for testing at the time Claris shipped version 2.1v3 of ClarisWorks.
You can update to version 2.1v4 or upgrade to a higher version. Check the Apple Software Updates for the earlier updates. Check with your reseller for obtaining a newer version of ClarisWorks.
Note to Power Macintosh Owners
ClarisWorks 2.1v4 is not available in a "native" (accelerated) version. So, the 2.1v4 Updater will not update the native PowerMacintosh version of ClarisWorks 2.1v3. The best option in this situation is to upgrade to version 4.0 or 5.0, which includes a Power Macintosh version of ClarisWorks that is compatible with the Color StyleWriter 2400.
Alternatively, you can install the regular (non-accelerated) Macintosh version of ClarisWorks 2.1v3 onto your Power Macintosh, then update that with the 2.1v4 Updater. To do this, first run the ClarisWorks installer. Click the Customize button for a custom install, select "ClarisWorks for Macintosh," then click Install.
Work around
In lieu of updating, the following work around will enable you to use the ClarisWorks database, regardless of the
Macintosh type:
Select a different printer in the Chooser, create a new database (or open an existing), and then reselect the Color StyleWriter. However, you will have to repeat this work around every time you wish to create a new database or open an existing one.
