Several customers have reported that their Assistant Shortcut icons appear garbled in the shortcut palette and in the Edit Shortcuts dialog. The Assistant Shortcut icons are stored in each Assistant file in the Claris folder as a resource. The other shortcut icons are stored as resources in the ClarisWorks application file. None of these icons is editable within ClarisWorks.
If the Assistant Shortcut icons are garbled, the solution is to replace them by running the ClarisWorks Installer, clicking Customize and installing only the Assistants. One of your System Extensions may have conflicted with the ClarisWorks installer, causing the corruption when you first installed. Be sure to disable Extensions when you reinstall by restarting your Macintosh with the Shift key held down until you see the message "Welcome to Macintosh. Extensions Off."
Another reason for the corruption may be disk compression software. If the issue persists even after reinstalling, disable disk compression software or specify that the Claris folder not be compressed.
