In some cases, the installation process is aborted after the installer restarts Windows at the point when the WIN32s is installed. An alert box shows the error: WIN32s-Error [pathname]\\MS·STF.dll: Invalid format. The path name describes where the file is located on your disk. This location could be the C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM directory or a directory whose name begins with a tilde character (~). After you click OK at the alert dialog, you get a second alert message: Cannot startup ClarisInstaller-Error 193.
The solution to the above issue is to locate and delete the following six files from your hard drive:
mscomstf.dll
mscuistf.dll
msdetstf.dll
msinsstf.dll
msshlstf.dll
msuilstf.dll
If these files are not in the above directory, you can locate them by using the Search command in Windows File Manager, searching for ms*stf.dll .
Where ms*stf.dll files come from.
These files are used by the Microsoft installer, which many software vendors, including Claris, use to install Windows applications. A properly engineered installer copies these files to your hard disk during the installation process, then removes them when installation is complete. Some installers leave these files on your hard disk, resulting in a conflict with subsequent installations.
Note: This is fixed in ClarisWorks 3.0v2.
