The LaserMaster printer driver causes the installation of ClarisWorks 3.0 to fail when copying the file WINSPOOL.DRV from Install Disk 1. The solution is to remove the LaserMaster printer driver from your System temporarily and install ClarisWorks. Once ClarisWorks has been installed successfully, the printer and its drivers can be re-enabled.
To temporarily remove the LaserMaster printer driver from your System, do the following:
1. Remove Fast Release and/or Win Print from the Windows start-up group by dragging them into another group (such as Main or Accessories). This technique prevents them from loading during Start-up.
If neither is located in the start-up Group, they may be in the SYSTEM.INI file. Use the following technique to suppress them.
2. Open the SYSTEM.INI file with a text editor (such as NotePad) or with SYSEDIT and edit the appropriate lines for three device drivers in the 386 Enhanced section [386ENH]:
device=lmmi.386
device=lmcap.386
device=lmharold.386
A semicolon (;) should be placed such that it is the first character on each of the above three lines. This instructs Windows to skip the line when processing the
SYSTEM.INI file. Once the semicolons are in place, save the changes to the SYSTEM.INI file.
3. Restart Windows.
When Windows comes back up, follow the directions for installing ClarisWorks 3.0. When the installation of ClarisWorks is complete, the printer can be re-enabled by putting the Fast Release and Win Print files back into the start-up group and removing the three semicolons from the appropriate lines in the SYSTEM.INI file. Be sure you restart Windows for your changes to take effect.
Note: According to LaserMaster Technical Support, it is not necessary to remove the printer driver from the
Printer section of the Windows Control Panel.
This solution should work with all of LaserMaster printers
WinPrinter and WinJet printers including: WinPrinter 1000, WinPrinter 600XL, WinJet 800, WinJet 1200, and WinJet 1200 Plus.
