"Error Decompressing" Messages During Installation

Installation problems may be caused by a bad memory chip.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

If you receive the following error messages while attempting to install ClarisWorks 3.0 for Macintosh, the issue may be caused by a defective RAM memory chip:

Disk 2
Error Decompressing "Introduction to ClarisWorks", the data doesn't match.
Error Decompressing "Address List", the data doesn't match.

Disk 4
Error Decompressing "ClarisWorks Help", the data doesn't match.

This issue was reported by a customer and has not be verified by Claris. The machine used was a Power Macintosh 6100/60AV with 16 MB of memory running System 7.5.

The solution is to replace the defective memory chip.
