Printing to a DeskJet 540 Does Not Work in ClarisWorks 3.0

To correct printing issues when printing to the DeskJet 540 you must install an earlier or updated version of the printer driver you have installed or update your version of ClarisWorks.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

Printing from ClarisWorks 3.0 to an Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 540 will not work. To correct this issue you can install the Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 500 driver from the Windows diskettes (so that an earlier driver version will be installed). If you have installed the Hewlett-Packard DeskJet driver and ClarisWorks still will not print, more than likely you have installed the driver that came with the DeskJet which is still the 5.0 driver. ClarisWorks 3.0 cannot print using any of the DeskJet 5.0 drivers, but will print with the earlier 4.1 and current 6.1 drivers.

NOTE: Installing the DeskJet 500 driver from your Windows diskettes will give you printing capabilities for the DeskJet 540, but it will only print in black and white.

If you do not have your original Windows diskettes there are different on-line areas where you can obtain the current version of the driver and the ClarisWorks 3.0v2 updater. On the Claris BBS (408)987-7421 go to the File menu and go to W for Windows Files, then select Drivers. This is where you will find the Hewlet-Packard DJ 6.1 drivers ready for download. Also available from the Claris BBS is the ClarisWorks 3.0v2 updater that works around the printing issues with the DeskJet series printers.

If you cannot download from a BBS, you need to contact Claris Customer Assistance for the updated version of ClarisWorks (3.0v2 a nominal shipping and handling charge will apply.)

Hewlett-Packard also has a new driver available on both their BBS and through the mail. The filename is "DJ100EN.EXE", it is in library 1A. The same driver can be obtained via U.S. mail on 2 diskettes for a nominal fee by calling and requesting part number DJ100EN.

The modem service is provided to Hewlett-Packard's customers to allow improved access to drivers and utilities for Hewlett-Packard personal computer and peripheral products. Interactive messaging and technical support are not available through this service.
