NetWare Workstation Drivers and Windows

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
Problems running FileMaker Pro with Novell NetWare are often attributed to the incorrect installation of workstation drivers. If all of the drivers that work together are not updated together, you may get a network connection but not necessarily all of the support needed for record locking, file locking or transmission of(broadcasting) a hosted FileMaker Pro file.

FileMaker Pro works with all versions of the updated drivers provided they are ALL updated together. When Novell makes an update available, there are many files included. All of the files used in the system should be updated at the same time. The README files included with each update explain this in more detail.

FileMaker requires IPX/SPX v3.10 and Netx v3.26 or above. However, more recent drivers are available.

In the past, the Workstation drivers were updated in files on the Novell forum of CompuServe called NetWire. They were called DOSUPX.EXE and WINUPX.EXE. These files will soon be removed from NetWire if they aren't already.

The new naming convention for updates is VLMUPX.EXE, NET33X.EXE, and WINDRX.EXE (where X represents the update level).

The contents of these files are outlined below.

NET33X.EXE contains the following files:
NETX.EXE            78749     05-24-94       8:53a
EMSNETX.EXE         90605     05-24-94       8:55a
XMSNETX.EXE         87273     05-24-94       8:57a

NETWARE.HLP         34348     02-12-92       3:12p

The Net33x.exe file includes the NetWare driver set v2.02 for workstations using NETX and Windows 3.0 or 3.1. Note: DO NOT MIX THESE FILES ON WORKSTATIONS USING THE NETWARE DOS REQUESTER (VLMs). No further development is being made on: NETX.EXE, EMSNETX.EXE and XMSNETX.EXE. The latest updates and future development to workstation drivers will be to the VLM drivers. To get the latest info on the client requester download VLMUPx.EXE , (where x stands for the latest rev).
