Expert Assistance and Time-Saving Automation
ClarisWorks 4.0 provides expert assistance, time-saving automation and enhanced usability enabling ClarisWorks 4.0 users to be more productive than ever. Three new ClarisWorks Assistants (Mail Label, Home Finance, and Certificate -- eleven total Assistants) offer step-by-step guidance and expert advice on document layout, design and content or help with complex tasks. New time-saving automation features include: ExpressStyleª, which redefines the stylesheet metaphor enabling users to instantly format not only text and paragraphs, but also graphics, outlines and tables; FastReportª, to automate searching, sorting, and reporting of frequently used data; and ReadyArtª Libraries, so users can store and organize hundreds of frequently-used clip art images (500 clip art images included with ClarisWorks 4.0.)
Arthur Dechene, a new home sales manager in Austin, Texas uses ClarisWorks at home and in the office. "The new ClarisWorks automation features are real time-savers. I really like the ExpressStyle feature because now I can instantly format outlines, regular text, paragraphs or whatever. The spreadsheet Fill Special feature also helps speed me through my work. Now with just one command, the month, date and year are automatically put into the spreadsheet."
"The Certificate Assistant is a great feature for schools because now instead of buying certificates we can easily create them ourselves," said Jan Clough, speech therapist for the Modoc County Office of Education in California. "The Mail Label Assistant is also terrific because if you don't have time to do the layout, you can just put the information in and the labels are automatically made for you."
Sharon Gray, a computer lab manager and teacher's aid at the Hawkins Elementary School in Hawkins, Texas uses ClarisWorks at school, at home and for her husband's construction business. "ClarisWorks 4.0 makes everything even easier to do. I really like the drag-and-drop ReadyArt libraries because you can store and manage all your graphics right there. You just select the graphic you want and insert it. It's that simple."
Powerful New Word-Processing and Database Features
To speed the formatting and layout of longer documents common in higher education and business settings, ClarisWorks 4.0 adds a host of new word processing capabilities, including ExpressStyle (universal stylesheets), sections, multiple headers and footers, left-and-right-facing pages, end notes, integrated outlining, new font styles, and mail merge preview.
ClarisWorks 4.0 adds new power and accessibility to its database with the new FastReport feature for custom searching, sorting, and reporting, and a spreadsheet-like List View so users can read data in a simple row and column format. Other database enhancements, such as the smart name field (one field for first and last name which automatically sorts by the first letter of the last name) and new radio buttons, check boxes, and pop-up menus, let users access and use information much more efficiently.
"I'm really impressed with the powerful new database features in ClarisWorks 4.0 like List View and the new tool panel buttons," said entrepreneur Norm Gulkis, owner of Pro-Mark Inc., whose company produces trade shows for the gift souvenir and novelty industry. "List View makes my job easier by doing all the formatting for me when I need to print a list of customers. The new FastReport feature also saves a lot of time because I can do everything right on screen and then save the criteria. I may have 10 different report formats and now all I have to do is click on the box, pick out the report I want and then print."
Internet Authoring with HTML Translator
ClarisWorks 4.0 offers users an easy way to create and read World Wide Web documents, with a built-in HTML (Hypertext Mark-up Language) translator.
Phil Biggs, instructional technology coordinator for the Greeley/Evans School District in Weld County, Colorado said, "I'm really excited about the built-in HTML translator in ClarisWorks 4.0. Many schools are starting their own web sites and need an easy way to create World Wide Web documents. The ClarisWorks HTML capability is awesome and will really be a big draw for our schools."
Unique Cross-Platform Compatibility
Alone among all-in-one packages, ClarisWorks 4.0 delivers cross-platform compatibility for Windows and Macintosh. With the delivery of version 4.0 for Windows 95 this fall, ClarisWorks will provide the same interface and file format for each platform. Macintosh users will be able to take advantage of System 7.5 capabilities including AppleScript (four sample scripts are included), AppleEvents, PowerTalk, and QuickTime.
