Claris Draw: Multiple Duplication Offset Doesn‘t Work Properly

If the duplication offset doesn't work properly, it could mean that Layer 1 in your drawing is locked.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

It is often useful in ClarisDraw to be able to create a number of identical objects offset from each other in a regular way. For example, if you want a row of 1" squares separated from each other by exactly 1/4", you can create one square, select it, and choose Duplicate under the Edit Menu.

While the duplicate square is selected, you drag it into the correct offset position and duplicate it again. The second duplicate is now offset from the first by exactly the same amount and in the same direction as the first duplicate is offset from the original. If you continue duplicating the object without deselecting it, each new object is automatically offset by the correct amount and in the correct direction.

However, if Layer 1 is locked, succeeding objects do not automatically offset correctly.

To unlock Layer 1, choose <Layer Manager...> from the Layer pop-up menu found near the bottom left corner of your document window. Click on Layer 1 in the list appearing in the Layer Manager window, then uncheck the checkbox labeled "Locked."
