Support Policy for Files Created in Beta Version of ClarisWorks

A number of CSA members received a CD from Claris in early May of 1995 which contained a beta version of ClarisWorks 4.0. Due to factors encountered during the development cycle, files created or saved in this version of ClarisWorks 4.0 cannot be opened in later versions of ClarisWorks 4.0, including the certified, shipping version.

This software was distributed explicitly for evaluation purposes only and was accompanied by a letter (see below) which states: "As with any pre-release software, be sure to work with backup copies of your files as it is still possible to damage or lose data through program error. Please note that the software comes 'as is' and no technical support is provided."

As stated above, due to issues in version-to-version conversion between the various beta releases, Claris Technical Support is unable to convert any files created or saved in beta versions of ClarisWorks 4.0 to a format supported by the current shipping version.

Dear ClarisWorks for Macintosh Evaluator:

Enclosed you will find a confidential pre-released version of ClarisWorks 4.0 for Macintosh, for your evaluation. As a CSA Member, you indicated an expert level in using ClarisWorks, and this software is being provided to you to view and evaluate the latest version of the best selling integrated application for the Macintosh.

This software will not be publicly announced until later this month, and under your CSA nondisclosure agreement, along with the enclosed license agreement you agree to become bound by the terms of this license.

This version of ClarisWorks has over 100 new features to help you be even more productive with your Macintosh. This package contains:
* Pre-release software
* Draft EvaluatorÕs Guide
* Quick Reference for key new features
* Evaluation survey
* Electronic help is also included in this version.

To install the software please follow these directions:
* First, please make a backup copy of the Claris folder (located in the System folder) since ClarisWorks 4.0 will add new items to your current Claris folder that will not currently work with ClarisWorks 3.0. We recommend that you name it ÔBackup ClarisÕ. Once you go back to using ClarisWorks 3.0, you should throw away the Claris folder and rename the backup copy to ÔClarisÕ.

* For CD-ROM installation: Place the CD into your CD-ROM drive. Double click on the folder named Disk 1. Double-click the Install ClarisWorks icon. Choose either the Easy Install or Custom Install and select the appropriate hard drive for installation.
*Please note that there are some placeholder items such as the README that will be in the final version, but are not included in this pre-release version.

As with any pre-release software, be sure to work with backup copies of your files as it is still possible to damage or lose data through program error. Please note that the software comes 'as is' and no technical support is provided.
