No Blinking Insertion Point in ClarisWorks 3.0 for Windows (WP, SS)

How to determine what video driver you have to see if it has been tested as less reliable with ClarisWorks for Windows

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

No blinking insertion point in Word Processing or Spread Sheet documents with these drivers.

To see which video driver you currently have installed, go to Windows Setup in the Main window. Under Display you will see the name of the driver, for example:
CLGD5426/28 1.41 640x280x256. This is the name of one of the specific drivers we have had reported problems with, the Cirrus Logic 1.41 driver.

If you are running a Cirrus Logic driver whos version is lower than 1.43, then you will need to install the 1.43 CL-GD5428 driver on the system and follow the steps below. To obtain the updated driver, please contact Cirrus Logic at the following:

A- First run Install from the 1.43 driver disk to install this driver.

Now do the following steps to fix the driver:

1. Exit Windows and go to DOS
2. Insert the 1.43 driver disk in drive A:
3. Type 'A:\\' (or your appropriate floppy disk drive letter)
4. Type 'CD^512K' (a caret ^ indicates a space to be typed)

5. Type 'COPY^256_1280.DRV^C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM'
(This will replace the driver that was already installed in step A)
6. Restart Windows

This problem has also been noted when the following drivers are installed:
ACTIX Prostar5 1.53
VC300 VGA 64x480x256

To correct the problem, you have several options. You can install the VGA driver from your Windows Setup Icon under Options - Change System Settings, then select the driver that says "VGA" only. This will produce an insertion point as well as get you through the introduction, but it will change your display to VGA 640 x480x 16 colors.

Claris has also developed a revision of ClarisWorks, 3.0v2, that addresses this problem as well.

You can also check with either the video card manufacturer or the video driver manufacturer to get updates to their drivers.
