Claris Works: Error in Calculation That References a Pop-up Menu (Value List)

ClarisWorks 4.0 for Macintosh does not properly evaluate calculations that are based on items in a value list.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

Creating a calculation field in order to display a pop-up menu field will yield the position of the selection rather than the selection itself. For example, assuming a Popup Menu field named FieldOne with the following items in the list:

Three
Two
One

A calculation field resulting in text with the formula ='FieldOne' will show a result "1" if Three is selected from FieldOne, a "2" if Two is selected, and a "3" if One is selected.

The workaround is to force ClarisWorks to evaluate the result of the calculation as text by using a text function in the formula. For example, a calculation field resulting in text with the formula =CONCAT('popupmenuone',"") will yield the correct results.
