Corrupted File Warning with ClarisWorks 3.x under Windows 95

How to work around the error message "This is not a ClarisWorks file or it has been corrupted".

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

When running ClarisWorks for Windows 3.x under Windows 95, double clicking on a ClarisWorks document in either the WINDOWS EXPLORER or MY COMPUTER produces an error message as follows:

"THIS IS NOT A CLARISWORKS FILE OR IT HAS BEEN CORRUPTED"

followed by:

"FILE NOT FOUND"

This only seems to be a problem when double-clicking on a ClarisWorks document that resides in a folder whose name has a space in it. For example:

"My ClarisWorks Documents" would produce the error mentioned above
"My_ClarisWorks_Documents" would work fine
"Clworks" would also be fine

Opening this file via the OPEN dialog box from within ClarisWorks 3.x also seems to work fine, regardless of whether or not the folder that the document is residing in has a space in its name. It only seems to affect opening documents by double-clicking outside of ClarisWorks.

NOTE: This has been tested with version 3.0v1 and 3.0v2.
