ClarisWorks: "CALL TO UNDEFINED DYNALINK" Error

Some .DLL incompatibilities will cause this error in other applications after installing ClarisWorks.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
If, after installing ClarisWorks 3.x for Windows, you attempt to launch either Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel (or other Microsoft Office applications) and you see the following error message:

APPLICATION ERROR
"CALL TO UNDEFINED DYNALINK"

then follow these steps:

1.Uninstall / reinstall ClarisWorks for Windows
2. Delete the following files from your \\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM directory

OLE2CONV.DLL
OLE2DISP.DLL
OLE2NLS.DLL
COMPOBJ.DLL
STORAGE.DLL

3. Reinstall any / all of your Microsoft Office package.

Explanation: This is caused from an incompatibility with certain Dynamic Link Library (.DLL) files that are installed during the installation of Win32s and those used by Microsoft Office products.

The .DLL files have to be deleted (or renamed) because the Office install program will not overwrite the files with the correct versions if it detects a copy of the file being on your system already. Deleting (or renaming) the files ensure that the proper versions of the files will get copied over.

This error occurs anytime an application tries to make a call to a .DLL file that is older than the .DLL that it needs. It is a generic error message that means the application tried to register a .DLL file that either does not exist or is incorrect.

This error does not occur with all version of Microsoft Office or Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)
