White Objects Print Black to HP 4 and 4 Plus

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
When using Windows 95, printing white graphic objects or data chart elements to a Hewlett-Packard 4 or 4 Plus printer can result in the objects printing out black.

To correct this problem, change the printer driver graphics mode from "Use vector graphics" to "Use raster graphics."

To do this:

1. Choose Print Setup from the File menu
2. Confirm that the currently selected printer is the one you wish to print to and click on the Properties button
3. Click on the Graphics tab and select the radio button next to "Use raster graphics"
4. Click OK, when the previous screen reappears, click OK again
5. Choose Print from the File menu and print as usual

The problem has been observed on the 4 and 4 Plus, but may also occur on other printer models. This solution has only been tested on the 4 and 4 Plus, however.
