Claris Applications: EPSF Translator Doesn‘t Export Colors

The EPSF translator used by ClarisDraw and other Claris applications to export and import file information can't fully handle detailed PostScript information. It imports basic color and file data, but loses data when it sends information out that contains spot (Pantone Colors) or process (CMYK) colors.

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.

This is because the filter is not up to the latest PostScript language standards that are used by other high-end graphics applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia FreeHand, and QuarkXPress. Setting the preferences for MacDraw Pro will not hurt the file being exported, but, if you choose no PICT preview for the EPSF translator settings, you will end up with a PostScript error when printing in QuarkXPress. There is no fix for this other than using a color or B/W PICT preview and defaulting to use CMYK separation for the image.
