ClarisWorks: Changing Default Document Settings Using Stationery

This information was provided by Claris Corporation on 16 March 1998, and incorporated into Apple Computer's Tech Info Library.
ClarisWorks has the ability to store as a default many settings that are in the Preferences dialog box and other document configuration areas. Examples of such settings might be the default font, default font size, page margins, or even a default logo to place in the header. You can find the instructions in the on screen Help by going to the help index and looking under "stationery, creating."

For ClarisWorks 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0:

1. Setup a new, blank document with all of the parameters as desired.

2. Choose Save As from the File menu.

3. Change the file type from "Document" to "Stationery" by clicking on the radio button next to "Stationery". When the "Stationery" option is chosen ClarisWorks automatically chooses the correct location in which to save the file.

4. Name the file exactly as outlined in the list below, depending on the environment type.

5. Click the Save button.

Note: When creating new documents, a copy of the "options stationery" file that you have just created will open automatically, it is not necessary to choose "Start with an Assistant or Stationery" (version 3.0), or "Use Assistant or Stationery" (version 4.0). If you want to create a new document without the default stationery settings, select a standard document type (such as "Standard Word Processing") from the scrolling list in the New Document dialog box.

For ClarisWorks 1.0, 2.0 and 2.1:

1. Setup a new, blank document with all of the parameters as desired.

2. Choose Save As from the File menu.

3. Change the file type from ClarisWorks to ClarisWorks Stationery in the "Save As" pop-up menu.

4. Name the file exactly as outlined in the list below, depending on the environment.

5. Choose either the ClarisWorks application folder, or the folder named "Claris" (which is located in the System Folder) as the location in which to save the file. Do NOT choose the folder named "ClarisWorks Stationery".

6. Click the SAVE button.

Note: When creating new documents, a copy of the "options stationery" file that you have just created will open automatically. If you want to create a new document without the default stationery settings, hold down the Option key on your keyboard while clicking on the OK button in the New Document dialog box (version 1.0, or choose "None" from the Stationery pop-up before clicking on the OK button (versions 2.0 and 2.1).]
